New Ladder Painting (pre ladder)

Roughed In

You always hear that the hardest part of painting is starting.  I disagree.  I think painters make paintings because they are addicted to the rush of starting.  When the work is nothing more than a bare skeleton of loose lines draped with a few patches of color and odd "notes to self" every square inch is pure potential.

Found Shelter #2

Get it?  The name of the hut plus the head to toe faux brick asphalt siding gives me the sense that who ever visits this place is probably pretty hilarious and/or likes to drink (which is based more on the extra large cans of Budweiser strewn about*).

Found Shelter #1

We keep stumbling upon hidden shelters on our morning walks through the woods. Each one is unique in purpose (some are for hunting while some are for living/hanging out?)  and the construction ranges from skilled but rustic to full on makeshift.

I love this bracket of architecture not only because of its resourceful, makeshift qualities and human scale but also because of how expressive it can be not unlike a self portrait.

I will keep posting these "found" Shelters as I find them.

Happy Hunting
